“Gentle Dentistry” is more than just a phrase at My Dental Care @ West End. It is the core philosophy that guides every procedure, every consultation and every interaction we have with our patients. We believe that your visit should be a stress-free experience built on trust, clear communication, and tailored comfort measures.
We understand the reasons why people put off dental care: fear of pain, anxiety, and past negative experiences. Our approach is specifically designed to eliminate these barriers and make maintaining your oral health simple and relaxed.
Open Communication: We discuss every step of your treatment plan, explain why it’s necessary, and ensure you are in control. We operate with a stop signal—if you need a break, simply raise your hand.
Advanced Pain Management: We utilise the latest techniques and technology to ensure anaesthetic delivery is as comfortable as possible (see our Needle Phobia page). We never rush and always ensure you are fully numb before beginning work.
Sedation Options: For patients who need help relaxing, we offer Nitrous Oxide (“Happy Gas”) to ease anxiety and manage discomfort, allowing for a calm and positive experience, even for complex procedures.
Pace and Time: We book longer appointment times for our anxious patients. This means we are never rushing you or your procedure, allowing us to go at your pace.
Molar, Our Therapy Dog: As a unique part of our team, Molar provides a calming presence and emotional support. A few minutes with Molar before or after your appointment can significantly reduce stress and anxiety.
Empathetic Team: Our entire team is trained to handle dental anxiety with patience and empathy. We are a judgment-free environment where your fears are heard and respected.

All surgical procedures carry risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.
Our Gentle Dentistry approach focuses on a holistic patient experience. This includes extended appointment times, open communication, the integration of sedation options, advanced pain-minimising techniques (like slow-delivery anaesthetic), and the unique presence of our trained therapy dog, Molar. We treat the patient’s anxiety first, and the teeth second.
Our gentle care is simply how we practice, and we aim to keep our fees competitive and transparent. Any specific comfort measures, such as Nitrous Oxide Sedation, are charged separately, but our commitment to a slow, calm, and pain-minimising environment is standard practice here.
Absolutely! We understand that meeting Molar can significantly ease anxiety. Molar’s availability is generally with Dr Casey on Wednesdays and Fridays. Please let our reception team know you would like to meet Molar when you book so we can ensure he is available to say hello during your visit.
While no medical procedure can ever be 100% guaranteed, our primary goal is your comfort. We ensure that we do not proceed with any treatment until the area is completely numb. If you feel any sensation, we immediately stop and administer more anaesthetic. We combine this technical commitment with verbal assurance and relaxation techniques to manage both physical pain and emotional anxiety.
If you feel anxious during your dental appointment, there are several steps you can take to help manage your anxiety. First, communicate your feelings to our dental team so we can better support you throughout your visit. Our staff is trained to handle dental anxiety with care and understanding. We will ensure plenty of time for your appointment to go at your pace.
Additionally, you might find comfort in spending time with Molar, our friendly therapy dog. Molar is always here to offer a calming presence and provide emotional support. Petting or simply being near Molar can help reduce stress and make your dental experience more pleasant.
Consider bringing a friend or family member with you for additional support. Listening to calming music or practicing deep breathing exercises can also be helpful. Remember, our goal is to ensure you feel comfortable and relaxed during your time with us.
