I have dental anxiety but need treatment
Dental anxiety is completely natural. However, putting off the dentist can result in more complex issues. If you require treatment, explore below…
Our Therapy Dog, Molar
A Therapy Dog is a dog that has been trained with its owner to provide therapeutic intervention to patients in the community. Research has found that dogs cortisol levels can sync with their owners, meaning they can sense when someone is stressed, feeling down, depressed or even lonely, and naturally want to provide their companion with their unconditional love and support.
At My Dental Care at West End, we want all of our patients to feel welcome into our practice and calm and comfortable when going into any treatment. By bringing our Cavoodle Molar into our practice, our team (and Molar, of course) aim to ensure all patients feel this way.
I have yellow teeth and want whiter teeth
If you are unhappy with the overall colour of your teeth, you have a couple of options.
Teeth whitening/bleaching
The most popular option is what’s commonly referred to as teeth whitening. This is a bleaching process that alters the shade of your tooth by 8 to 10 shades. For cosmetic issues, this can be a great solution.
The procedure only takes an hour and the results are seen as soon as treatment is complete. And results can last 9 to 12 months. Longer if you take care of your oral health. Longer still if you get take-home teeth whitening top up kits.
Porcelain veneers
Another option is dental veneers. This treatment involves placing thin shells of porcelain bonded to your teeth. An added advantage veneers have over teeth bleaching is that they can change the shape and size of the teeth.
Which is ideal if you’ve got minor chips or cracks that you would like covered up.
Whiter teeth combination treatment
Sometimes a combination of teeth bleaching and dental veneers is the best way to achieve a whiter smile.
The reason for this is simple. Dental veneers are colour matched to your smile to blend in seamlessly. If your teeth are yellow or even a little discoloured, it is often recommended to have a tooth whitening treatment first.
This is beneficial because it means your veneers will be colour matched to your new healthy-looking whiter smile. And since bleaching doesn’t affect dental veneers, it means that later when you get a top up tooth whitening treatment, you’ll have a consistent, healthy-looking white smile.
I want the best way to replace missing teeth
The best way to replace missing teeth depends on:
- Your oral health
- Your budget
- Your desired outcome
My Dental Care @ West End offer three options to replace missing teeth:
- Dental bridges
- Dental implants
- Dentures
Dental bridge
A dental bridge is a false tooth. It can be attached to one or two dental crowns, bonded straight onto adjacent teeth or secured with a dental implant.
The most common option is the dental bridge attached to dental crowns. This involves preparing either one or both of the healthy teeth on either side of the gap for dental crowns. The crown(s) is then cemented to the healthy teeth and the gap is bridged by the false tooth.
This option is a budget-friendly, effective way to replace a missing tooth.
Dental implants
A dental implant is an artificial tooth root. Made from biocompatible material, the dental implant is surgically inserted in to your jaw where it is used to anchor either a dental implant crown, bridge or denture.
For patients in good health (both oral and general health), this is treatment has benefits over and above non-implant supported tooth replacement options.
With a dental implant your jaw is being looked after as well as your gums and teeth. This is a result of the jawbone fusing with the dental implant which helps with health jawbone stimulation—an important part of keeping your jawbone healthy.
While this treatment has the most benefits it also has the longest treatment time. It can take anywhere from 3 to 6 months to complete this treatment. But at the completion of treatment you will have a long-lasting, healthy tooth replacement option that takes care of your teeth, gums, and jaw.
Dentures
People have been using dentures to replace missing teeth for centuries. This tried and tested method of replacing missing teeth is the least involved of all the methods. Dentures can be used to replace one tooth or a whole arch of teeth.
Some patients choose to have the dentures secured with 2 to 6 dental implants depending on the health of their jaw and the size of the denture.
I want healthy teeth and gums
Who doesn’t want healthy teeth and gums?
Admittedly, most people want this for cosmetic reasons. After all, healthy teeth and gums look good. The best way to get healthy teeth and gums is by visiting My Dental Care @ West End for regular check-up and cleans.
How regular?
Well, that depends on you.
For some patients they need to visit us every 6 months for a check-up and clean. Others come every 6 months for a clean, but only need a check-up every 12 months. Then for patients with gum disease or other health conditions, they may need to visit every 3 months.
The only way you’ll know how often you need a dental appointment is by visiting the dentist. They will assess your oral health and let you know when your next appointment should be.
I want dental pain relief
Pain is your body’s way of saying something is wrong. Don’t ignore it. If you are experiencing dental pain that won’t go away. Call us. We put time aside each working day to see emergency cases.
If you are experiencing a dull, throbbing pain that comes and goes, book a consultation to see us. And just because you can’t see any problems, doesn’t mean it’s not there.
I want virtually pain-free dentistry
Well, you probably want pain free dentistry. But we’re not allowed to advertise pain free. Everyone’s response to pain is different, so while it should be pain free, we have to preface it with virtually.
Now that’s out of the way…
My Dental Care @ West End offer sedation options to make you more comfortable during treatment. We provide laughing gas (nitrous oxide) to help calm your nerves; it should also remove the pain associated with dental treatments.
The other sedation option we provide is the Wand. This is a computerised delivery system for anaesthetic. The computerised system helps to remove the discomfort associated with injections. You see, what often hurts with injections is less that initial bee sting of the needle but rather the flow of anaesthetic being injected.
The Wand removes this discomfort by controlling the pressure and flow rate of the anaesthetic. Most of our patients who experience the Wand report no pain at all. But again, keep in mind—everyone experiences pain differently.
Getting the dental help, you need
If none of the above applies, but you are sure you need dental help. Give us a call. Book a consultation. Our team is always happy to help you receive the dental care you need.
A check-up and clean is good for you anywhere, and during this appointment our friendly team will listen to your concerns and recommend the most appropriate treatment for you. If you would like more information, or to request an appointment at My Dental Care @ West End, please contact us today.
